Ingathering 2014 was a success, we made and took the most kits ever, we took 16 health, 9 sewing, 47 school kits for UMCOR and we had 16 Layettes for INP. A total of 88 kits which came out to be $1,191.00. Plus we paid $192.00 for shipping and toothpaste for the 16 health kits. Thanks to all who made the school bags, and to all those who purchased items to fill the kits.
Malaria Update:
In 2013 the Ad Council accepted the challenge to become a “Barnabas Church” and raise $8,500.00 for the “No More Malaria” campaign in the next three years.
The goal for becoming a Barnabas Church is to raise $100.00 per average Sunday attendee, which is 85. ( It really doesn’t sound that difficult.) In 2013 we raised $1,528.97. So far this year we have been able to raise $ 4,392.00, this does include money from pie auction.
The Church, Society and Missions committee had a Pie Auction on Sunday, November 23 they sold 20 pies for $825.00 with extra donations to pie auctions for a total of $ 905.00.—This was a yummy way to raise money.
Once again the UMW sent out cookie boxes to 17 military and 4 college students. They also make cookie plates for 32 shut ins, around town that are not unable to get out.
Thanks to all who get up early on Monday morning to get the boxes & plates made up. We have a good crew that get right to the task. Thanks, also to those who made the homemade cookies. This year we were short on cookies and were not able to fill the plates/boxes with as many cookies as we wished, but it worked out. –The cookie committee
The mitten tree is now the giving tree, this time for the Siena/Frances House, homeless shelter in Omaha. The youth of the church found the tree while helping decorating the church and wanted to do something with it. The tree will be upstairs beside the railing and can be covered with personal hygiene items, paper/plastic products, baby items, cleaning products, linens, food, undergarments and miscellaneous items. There will be a daily need list on the table upstairs for you to look at and also on the tree.
Sidewalk Fund Update: Hip, Hip, Hurray. !!! Give your self a job well done, pat on the back. The sidewalk is all paid for and we thank everyone who helped make this possible.
DWIGHT
WRITES
Greetings
in the name of Jesus Christ. It hardly seems possible that we are already into
the season of Advent where we begin to make ourselves ready to receive what God has done and will do in Jesus
Christ. There are countless ways for us
to be made receptive to the activity of God.
Thinking about the words to share with you, I found the following
nesting poem. The words are mine, but I
offer them to you. I invite you to read
them slowly, letting the sound of the words wash over you. Might they become your words, and actions, as
you make yourself ready to be receptive to the Mystery of God made known in
Jesus Christ.Blessings and Peace, Pastor Dwight
