THIS & THAT—
*
Have you noticed something new on the outside of the church? When you walk through the doors take a look
up and you will see a beautiful Cross & Flame. Wayne & Bette Tye had the church emblem
made and installed the first part of June.
It is a very nice addition to the church.* The Morning Circle ladies will not meet the 1st Thursday of the month in July. They will be meeting the second Thursday, July 11 at Dusty’s at 11:00 am for dinner. Don’t forget the ladies have an assortment of greeting cards and napkins –located in the Upper Room.
* Myra’s Sunday school class hosted a freewill breakfast on Sunday, May 26. They served sausage gravy and biscuits and had around 60 people come eat . They made $117.00 and gave the money to Vacation Bible school to help with the cost this year.
* “Are We There Yet?” Is this years summer
musical with the Faith
Lutheran and St. John’s United Church of Christ congregations. The musical this year will be performed at
St. John’s UCC on Sunday, July 14
at 10:30 am followed by a meal.
If you wish to catch a ride we will have a
car pool sign up sheet in the
upper room.
If
you would like to furnish a dessert for dinner on July 14, please call the
church and let us know. We also have a sign up sheet located in the Upper room.
* The United Methodist/Lutheran choir is
looking for the next choir director. In that search we have prepared a list of expectations for this musical
leader.
1. Full choir will sing at both
churches twice a month on Sunday morning (Sept –May)2. Choir rehearsals will be scheduled in conference with the choir director, singers and accompanists. The expectation is that these will happen on Wednesday evenings.
3.The choir director will have regular meetings with the pastors of GUMC and Faith.
The choir director’s salary will be $120 a month from Sept. to May. Each church will pay half.
Dear
friends in the faith -
I invite you to wonder with me. (As “I” wonder, I invite you to let this
wonder be yours.) I wonder what is was
that captured the imagination and hope of those who have gone before us and
established a church and a building and a ministry here in Griswold? I wonder what life would be like here if all
those faithful people had not acted out that faith, long before we were ever
here? I wonder what legacy we will
(& hope that we will) leave behind?I wonder what it is that I can/do offer to God? I wonder what difference it makes in my life and in the life of those around me? I wonder what would happen if I would be very intentional about nurturing my faith, developing and practicing spiritual disciplines, including prayer, study, worship and giving?
I wonder what would happen to me and the church if I took seriously this whole business of tithing? I wonder what it would mean for me to give it a try - or at least, begin by giving to God 1st, out of everything I make? I wonder about how I could be creative in sorting out new ways to give and share my life and my gifts? I wonder how much ministry the church could do if everyone followed my example and practice?
I wonder about how God continues to love the world, you and me? I wonder about how I let that grace and love into my life, and then share it out into the world? I wonder . . .
I wonder and am filled with Thanksgiving !!!
Blessings and Peace,
Pastor Dwight
