Summer Hours start June 2 —9:00 am Sunday school,   10:00 am worship

·         Thank You --Marcia Anderson for the last 12 years of being our Choir director.  You will be missed by those you worked with and those that got to sit back and enjoy your work.

·         This year we had two apply for the Larry Fichter Scholarship and they were both very good candidates, so we award both of them the 2013 Larry Fichter scholarship.  The scholarship were given to Dillon Bechtol and Nick Buchanan.

·         During May we had 2 weddings: on Saturday, May 11  Shawna Sandness & Jeff  Rokusek, a niece of Amy Hook was married at the Griswold Golf/County Club. Then on Sunday, May 13 at Living History Farm in Des Moines Christy Anderson & Craig Dumais were married in the barn.  We wish both couples many years of happiness.

·         On Sunday, May 26  Brayden Alexander Long, son of Morgan Dvorak was baptized. Brayden was born July 27, 2012 at the Cass County Hospital.  Grandparents are Brenda Peck & George Dvorak.

·         Choir meeting for anyone interested in attending,  on Wed., June 12th at 7:00 pm @ GUMC.  We will be meeting with the Lutheran Church to decide what we want to do about a combined & community choir and choir director.

·         2013 Carnival VBS     June 24-26, 6-8 PM   June 27 Family Night at Faith with carnival & meal 6 pm     Need  volunteers at both churches,  helping with PreK-2nd grade, or 3rd - 5th grade. ——-Contact Kyla Amos  763-4560

·      Are We There Yet?  Is this years summer musical with the Faith Lutheran and St. John’s United Church of Christ congregations.  The musical this year will be performed at St. John’s UCC on Sunday, July 14 at 10:30 am followed by  a meal. We are needing Sunday school students and singers to join in.  If interested give the church office a call.  Rehearsals for choir start June 4 @ 6:30 at St. John’s.  We will have a sign up sheet available at the end of June for car pooling to the musical at St. John’s.

·         Iowa Annual Conference is scheduled for June 7 –10.  This year on Sunday, June 9th we will be having a Video Stream of Annual Conference Ordination Worship  with the Ordination of Melissa Drake, during worship.  So come join us for this special service starting at 9:00 am. We will have coffee during the video stream, it will be a come & go time.  There will be     no adults Sunday school that day.  Lisa’s class will be open for the Sunday school time.

·         The Morning Circle has a new shipment of greeting cards and napkins.  They are located in the Upper Room on the west wall by the railing.  There is a box to leave your money in.

·         Each Memorial Day Sunday we honor those members and friends of the church who have  passed away this last year, by lighting a candle in their honor.  This year we will light  a candle in memory of :  Mary Book, Jean Burnham, Rilla Shires, Delores Coucier, Thomas Lovell,  Wally Hoye  & Ross Armentrout

 

DWIGHT WRITES

 

       Over the years this congregation has nurtured several folks in the faith who gone on to serve as ordained pastors.  The most recent is, Melissa Drake, who will be ordained an Elder at the Iowa Annual Conference on Sunday, June 9.  The 9:00 am worship service “Ordering of Ministry” will feature the preaching of Bishop Sally Dyck, of the Northern Illinois Conference.

     The church here in Griswold would like Melissa to know that we continue to love her and we wish to continue encouraging her as she moves ahead in her ministry.  I hope several from here will be able to make the trip to Des Moines and attend the ordination service in person.  As we talked about this at the most recent SPRC (Staff/Parish Relations Committee) meeting it was decided that even if all could not attend in person, everyone could participate in the worship service from a distance.  The Ordination worship service on June 9, from 9:00 am to 11:00 am, will be live streamed from Des Moines.  You will be able to watch from the comfort of our own church.

        I hope that all of you will come to the church and worship in this new way, and also as a sign of support and encouragement for Melissa.  It will also be an opportunity for each of you to experience one of the worship services at Annual Conference.  There will be note cards for you to write special memories or experiences that you would like to share with Melissa, or maybe a prayer of blessing that you would like to offer to her.  At a later date we will have a  special gathering where we will give Melissa a gift of a Stole to wear in worship, the cards we have written, and give her our verbal greetings.
