Lenten Devotions are needed for our 40th -Lenten Book. You
can either e-mail it to me at giaumc@netins.net or mail them to the church at
Box 549, or even bring them to me in person.
I need 47 devotions and appreciate all you do to make this a successful book. I
have to them to me by February 17, so they can get put into a book form and
printed.
We will be
putting them together on Monday, Feb. 24 at 10:00 am. So if you can, please come help fold,
staple & stuff. Guaranteed a good time -Kathy
If everyone who attends Sunday service would put an extra
$1.00 in a week we would have our money raised before the end of 2015. So if this is something you would like
to do make sure you write $1.00 or what ever amount and Malaria on your check.
Are you hungry for something sweet? If you would like to help the Middle school
Sunday school class out, they are having a bake sale on Sunday, February 9th,
after worship.
The
kids are wanting to raise money for a group outing sometime this summer.
Getting into the
Modern times!! Have
you noticed anything new in the sanctuary? There are 2 big screen TV’s up front
and off to the sides of the pulpit
area. We have been talking of getting a
retractable screen or TV’s for several years.
It was finally decided to go with the TV’s. The
TV’s will be used when we have a presentation that requires a video. The last couple years we have used the back
wall beside the cross to show our Sunday school Christmas program on. With technology, it is getting to be a in
thing to project activities, like when Melissa Drake became an Elder we watched
it live. (We had to use
2 screens to make it work.) Hopefully
sometime down the road we can purchase a disc, that will have the words to the
hymn’s on it. There is a lot of
possibilities for this addition. With
any improvement it takes money and we are once again asking for your help. The cost of this project will run $4,580.00.
This cost includes the 2-60” TV’s, a new computer, brackets and labor. The last couple Sunday’s we have used them for
advertising our 100th anniversary celebration of the building and the GMA –”Mid
- winter Song’ If you wish to help,
write ‘Building or TV’s” on your
donation. Thanks for your help with this new project.
Women At the Well Did
you know the church is in prison? Women
at the Well is our sister congregation, a United Methodist congregation within
the walls of the women’s correctional institution in Mitchellville, Iowa. The pastor of this ministry, Rev. Lee Schott, will be with us on
Sunday, Feb. 16, to share with us about the seven years of
weekly worship, supportive community, faith nurture groups, and aftercare we
have offered to the women there. Maybe
you’ll find your own place in prison—in ministry with these women, our sisters
in Christ. Rev. Lee Schott is an
ordained United Methodist elder who has served as pastor at Women at the Well
since July 2011. Lee grew up on an Iowa
farm, left a career as an attorney to respond to God’s call, and served eight
years as pastor at Polk City UMC. Lee
and her husband recently moved home to the farmhouse near Prairie City where
Lee grew up. They have three sons, one
at UNI, one at ISU and a 10th-grader who is their only hope to follow his parents as
an Iowa Hawkeye. We will receive a special offering during worship today for Women at the
Well. Please write, “Women at the Well”
in the memo line, if you wish to make a contribution. You can make your own donation directly to
Women at the Well by mail or online at womenatthewellumc.org.

DWIGHT WRITES: During this season of the church year we celebrate
all of the ways that God has and continues to be made known to us. One of the images of God’s presence that has become important to me is the symbol of light.
The light of God’s love and presence has been made known in a
most powerful and revealing way in the life, death and resurrection of
Jesus. God’s love and grace continues to shine into the
world, changing lives for the good. We
who are part of the faith and part of the church have come to recognize the
Light of God. That recognition continues
to make a difference our lives. It is
our intent to reflect the light of God’s love and
grace in the ways we love and
care for those around us. We recognize
that we cannot force people to see. All
we can do is seek to be faithful in the ways that we live and love. We affirm that our God has remained
faithful. As I write here today, it is
my hope that you will connect with God in all of the ways you are able and that
you will open your eyes and your heart to God’s love and
grace, and then ~ let that
shine in your own life.
Grace
and Peace, Pastor
